Planning Review 2017 + BUJU ideas

Happy December friends! 💖

Hope everyone has a had a fabulous year! For me, it went by so fast, I swear we just moved into the new office (which we moved again since then to a bigger one!) – just wow. It has been a whirlwind. A good one though!

2017 recap

I wanted to start off a with a recap of last year. I am just going to link to my goals this year, via my digital BUJU stuff. So for Goals: Click here for the Goal Pages.

This year I have divided the pages up into Dailies, Goals, Notes, Projects & Trackers. I kept all my old notes too – since this is an unlimited Bullet Journal, I can keep whatever. I just divided to allow a quicker find time for some things. (like a travel journal).

I always feel like I do pretty well on most of my goals. Still fat, but if I can master that I will sell it and be rich. Everything else is pretty on point. I read, got a health check, new tablet, etc.  I definitely did really well with Side Hustles and money this year. Part of that is the Job and we are just frugal overall, but also good planning. I don’t feel like I did well on advancing my side hustle though – as I decided I didn’t want to do it. It’s really hard to print and sell stickers – the shipping and all – so mad props to those who do. I think I am going to try to stick to digital for now.

I also didn’t get to do a girlfriend trip, which I want to do every year. This is partly because my awesome girlfriend got to go to Hawaii three times last year via work bonus. So I can’t blame her there. So this year we will try again, same with Josh – would have liked to have gone to Seattle and maybe Disney this year but didn’t really plan for it accordingly. We did a lot of State travel though. So that is always nice. I went home too. Which is also great, I like hitting home up once a year – makes me feel like a superstar visiting all my friends. They are really too kind, I don’t ever have to worry about a place to sleep or eat.

So I lacked on the side hustle and health. And I’ve thought about it – I could do nothing on the side and just save more and buy way less cute stuff, etc, but I really like designing things, even if they just sit in my closet sometimes. I think I should work on packaging and posting those properly this year too. What would I do without hobbies?! Be bored endlessly. So I think keeping things going would be great.

If you look at the Projects pages – I brainstormed and wrote why I wanted to do something, just to work out how and why on them. I didn’t hold back so beware of some internal mental struggles and cursing! I was mentally trying to find the next steps on some items, for example, pins – I will probably use ZAP Creatives to get those done. I did the math to make it make sense and such, and now I need to do a timeline and I can get some items out, at least goal-wise. It helps that I am a 30-year-old adult with a day job, so I don’t need Kickstarter or anything. I can just buy what I want within reason.

So onto 2018!

So the theme for 2018 is SIDE HUSTLE GIRL! Well, it’s really:

Image result for you can't change someone who doesn't see an issue with their actions

And it is this, because, in my professional life, I find I can give all the advice in the world, layout a wonderful Marketing plan and budget – plan every detail for someone, and they won’t do it. And it makes me so ANGRY and defeated and I have to learn to let that go. I have to let go, you can only help people who want to change. LET IT GO. So yeah, that is this year’s theme. I hope I can become a better coach by doing this and maybe even crack a way to make them WANT to do those things instead.

Anywho.

Aside from that professional theme, it really is a Side Hustle heavy goal year. I got the basics in; read every quarter (now when I say this, I mean a productive book, not a fun book, I read for fun if something catches my eye – those go fast), calligraphy practice, debt, travel, fun stuff, and big wants (laser cutter this year, dammit).

THEN on a separate page, I made a project list.

I did this because I felt I WANT TO DO SO MUCH omg. But without Plans, things won’t get done. So instead of leaving them vague goals (which a lot of my goals I leave vague), I wanted to break them down into more manageable steps.

I started with a list, I literally wrote down all the fun things I’ve seen and wanted to do on a piece of paper one night. Here is the potato quality picture I took so when I lost it later that evening, I could type it up at work:

Know yourself – I did indeed lose it. Anyway, you can see all sorts of doodles and thoughts. So I typed that up and then sorted them in order of how important I felt they were… (in a table)

projects

You can see this in Goals. I did this so I could move things around. I ranked them on how much I wanted to do them. Jewelry being my absolute favorite thing to make, even if I never sell any, holding something you designed and made is amazing, to some vague ideas of paintings I want to do.

Some are insane probably – Like write a book. A dream todo, but it made it in there.

So I started filling out todos and ideas, but realized I think each project needs a page, vs a box…so I made them their own section. It made sense once I got started as well. I can create custom todos, go back to my whys – keep a budget in there, etc it just made sense to let it collect in it’s on file. This is where I got the idea to just separate the items like you would in a traveler’s notebook. It made sense when I was doing it and I hope to stick to it. It makes finding things MUCH easier. Google Docs does have a section to the side – Outline, but if you have 1000 pages, it can still get hard to find something.

SO, what did I do to prep

First, I setup Goals – This year, Last year + my 18 before 2018, and original Project list. I like having these printed as well so I can stick them in front of my face.

One thing that I do – every month end, I look at my yearly goals and think what can I put on my monthly TODOs to get closer to that said goal. It seems basic, but reviewing your yearly goals, or even quarterly, will make them more top of mind so you can focus on them and work towards them easier.

Then I also started adding stuff to the Calendar. It is hard because somethings I have no clue how long they will take. I am still thinking about them as far as projects, but I added

  • 12 Noon – Lunch! (I always get distracted and forget to eat)
  • 12:30 – Log Food, as I am lazy and really need to do this daily
  • 4:30 – time to leave – I also forget this sometimes
  • 9:30 – Work on Calligraphy (M W F)
  • 10 – Journal and head to bed*

*Instead of keeping all my journaling in the Classic HP this year, I got a big one I want to sorta scrapbook in as I go – pictures, etc. I usually write my day and how it was in one of the boxes on the classic, anything fun that happened, etc – but I think doing this will help me keep more memories together 🙂

I put those in reminders. I highly suggest you use the calendar to add some reminders and dailies! It helps. If you put them in Reminders your phone will remind you too.

I made a new calendar – Goals and Social Media. For Social media, I put in an Instagram post every M W F with a goal to update my Zaps to help with that. I need plan our more Tumblr stuff – as I like using that as a personal update thing so I added a Friday notice to do that. I can do what I am working on, Queque, etc.

For Goals I plan to put project deadlines – when I figure them out – as well as reminders to plan the week on every Sunday. I also added book reminders to pick a new one each quarter.

Whew, that is a lot but some prep no will greatly help me remember stuff this year. I do this at work all the time if I need to remember something I put it on the calendar as an all-day event on the day I think I should be thinking about it.

This was a lot of discussion on my planning and goals but I hope it helps you plan out your own goals. I still have a few projects in my mind I might like to do, but here is to a fantastically & busy 2018!
