Etsy Stats Experiment

Hello Friends

Today I want to talk more about Etsy and running your shop. I am by no means an expert and I am constantly learning. I have been looking over tips and tricks to try to see what else I can do to improve. One of the tips I saw for digital items – if you didn’t know I just opened a physical shop too – is to post MORE items and post daily / renew one item daily.

So I tried this, MAY – JUN this year.

Here are my stats:

Month – This Year | Last Year

JAN  – 549 | 539
FEB –  335 |  327
MAR – 633 | 401
APR – 390 | 279
MAY – 585 | 277
JUN –  314 | 453
JUL – 221 | 438
AUG – 270 | 521
SEP – 328 | 495*

*as of the 28th of Sept

They clearly have improved.

2019 vs 2020

Now, in 2019 I was not adding many items to the shop. I had pretty much stopped making stickers from 2017 – 2019 except a few items now and again, maybe 10 or a year. Not much. So I know my activity in 2019 was ‘meh’ at best. I did pick up towards the end when I was laid off – cause I had the time.

I’ve spent a lot of 2020 working on new inserts and a few functional stickers – but mostly inserts. My inserts have sold well and I’m so ecstatic every time someone buys one. Seriously, every time.

Now, I do not do ads on My Etsy, just share the items on Pinterest, here & Instagram. I actually fell off that around JUN – I had planned to keep going but I got a huge client end of JUN and been pretty busy so I need to get back on this train. So I would say not only did the activity from before helping my numbers, it continued through the Summer and start of Fall here, even though I fell off my goals train here.

What I’m (was) Doing

I had seen some tips on Etsy, to post daily. SO that is what I was doing. I was uploading all my products in bulk – like if I had 5 or so inserts, I’d draft them. Then I would go in and active one each day, or every other day. I also went back and renewed the ones that hadn’t sold – I had read a tip that said MORE listings the better, so I went for it.

If I look at the numbers, to just put a ton of items up, as Etsy charges .20 a listing, so I probably renewed 50 listings = $10. From JUN (when I started) until SEP 28th (today, as I am writing) I made $142.46 and had 1,903 visits (50 orders). I don’t make a ton on my Digital store, that is fine as it’s for fun, so bonus money. I am really grateful for every sale, and since I make things to my needs, thankful someone loves my art and planning style! I think that $10 was well spent, looking at this. Last year, same time, I had: $56.67 and 1,113 visits, 21 orders. I easily tripled my income from last year by being active.

How cool is that? I would totally recommend doing this, even if you only renew a few items a week, doing separate days seems to help. I also have a few duplicate listings – old versions vs new versions, I have not gotten rid of. I am OK with that looking at the extra listings getting more items up. Etsy encourages duplicate listings, to switch up the tags. I think I’ll be getting back onto the posting schedule and sharing my items on Pinterest to keep the momentum. I am happy with my little store sells, so I hope it continues to grow.

Happy selling!
