Planning Setup 2018
Hello Friends~
SO. I waited as long as I could to write this D: as I was unsure of what I wanted to do for this year. The struggle is real. I literally have 6 planners, ’cause I have a problem. And all of the Happy Planner Sticker books, ’cause again, I have a problem. I am very blessed to be able to own what I want, so yeah. BUT for actual usage this quarter I had to think about what I wanted.
So I settled on Digitial + a home planner.
Why a home planner? There are some things I want to track in a calendar format. I like to keep track of how much food money we spend, when SO goes to work, any fun days and vacations, etc I also wanted to use it as a bit of a scrapbook and try to put more pictures in it this year. Oh, I have the large Happy Planner for this. I am treating it kinda like a home binder – however, we are pretty simple (no kids, etc) so its very basic. Mostly for memories.
It is sad ’cause, as I said I literally have so many more D: but I can’t justify carrying them and I wasn’t a 100% happy with the style in each.
But I wanted them. SO I got them.
I plan to use the pastel Happy Planner for stickers – which I need to get back on – with pictures. So that is an easy win there. I can probably do the same with one of the Recollections one as the sizes are very similar, and it will show it in two formats.
Then I got the metal disc one CAUSE I WANTED METAL DISC. So badly. I got the hot pink ones. And don’t get me wrong, I was uber excited about the bullet journal style. I just don’t think I’d use it realistically. Don’t be afraid to ditch things you don’t think you will use. That is important in making it work for you.
Make it work FOR you, not you work for it. No matter what style you pick.
Then Digital. It’s the number one page that gets hits here. I am always shocked to see so many people on that page.
I’ll do some more basic lesson on Google Drive stuff in the future too. But I essentially stuck everything on my calendar in addition to the write-up pages I have shared before. For my basic pages, you can find them in this folder: Collections. I don’t mind sharing. I made multiple this time as it was easier for me as I go into some more than others.
‘Tracker’s‘ is the most common one I hit up. I even put a daily tracker in there for the months – I was previously doing it by hand and it is my favorite printable – but I thought I’d try it this way as well. This is measurable things. So mostly tables. I have a few list in here, which I am probably going to move to a list page. (probably will do this shortly since I am thinking about it).
Next, I have “Projects” which I separated from Goals – as a yearly kinda thing. I did this so I could think in this file vs just listing the projects I wanted to complete this year. It’s really handy for me to go back and ready my Why’s and thoughts, which is why you should all journal! This is great to go back and reference when I am trying to set monthly goals.
Next is Goals, which is just a list of Goals. Actually, I will put my list here. This is the great thing about digital, I can arrange it and change it how I want at any point in time. I like keeping my yearly goals in front. I decided to stick to YEAR goals vs Quarter because I tend to keep mine very vague. I do this on purpose so I can work towards what I think that goal is to determine if it is complete to me.
Then I left Notes for learning when I need or want to write stuff down. I really like doing notes by hand first – its fun to write and I obsess on notebooks anyway. I haven’t done a lot of free learning lately and should get back to it. Mostly just file it away in my head but it’s very good to sit down and take notes on Podcast, books or webinars.
Finally, I made a Dailies but I never use it. I like using digital for my todo’s. It’s handy and I can yell at my phone and Google Home. It’s just so easy, but definitely being listened to, but honestly whatever.
If you haven’t seen the digital stuff ^ there is a quick summary.
As for appointments, reminders and events? I use Google Calendar. I used it already for 99% of things, so I just switched the rest over. I put reminders on there as well as goal deadlines to remind me to work on things. I added social media reminders, which I try to not ignore. On my personal, I put work hours + SO’s work hours.
It also had week numbers + phases of the moon built in. Which was really handy. Plus holidays, so all that was done easily enough. I have not combined my work and person calendars. I could eventually to make it easier, but I think this is better for me so I can see what I am supposed to be doing at work and what others are working on vs home stuff.
Again I can yell at the phone or home to add a reminder or date. It’s so handy and spoilt. There are definitely some tips I can put in here for a post. Which I will.
Honestly 70% of my job at work is just helping with tech I swear.
I plan to stay digital for as long as I can. I really don’t have the time in the day to play with my calendar anyway, I use too but just been too busy and I noticed I was using it less and less throughout the week. Now I just don’t take it.
As always I will keep everything updated if I change it. I will also go over the tech and how-to’s in the next post.
