Productivity, Self Care, & Energy Management

Hey Friends

This is going to be a quick one, I am not sure how to make it pretty, but it needs to be said.

Let’s talk about productivity and self-care. The side hustle world has gotten a bit toxic, if you’d not working 50 hours are you really even hustling hard enough? It’s getting better, as more people are recognizing this is some BS, but I just want to remind you not everything you do needs to be monetized to hell and back. It’s okay to enjoy planning for what it is, a fun crafty hobby.

The reason I want to talk about this is I am a firm believer in if you want to be productive because you enjoy it, want to be part of the community, or just make more time for yourself – is really about proper self-care.

What do I mean? Figuring out how best you function and thrive – is literally self-care. It’s “how can I be the best person” and it turns out it’s sleeping 8 hours, not waking up at 4 AM to write, or maybe it is for you. Productivity is literally living your BEST life and you do that by understanding what helps you focus, peak, and when to rest. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

There are a few areas you can really try to figure out for yourself to help you get more done. You should be kind to yourself as sometimes these things change, month to month. Especially if you are a woman. Hormones are a real challenger in this, and depending on where you are in the month you may need different things. Finding those things out though is a game-changer.

Are you a night person or an early person? You might think you are one or the other, but be wrong because society has deemed you to be X, it also changes from HS to College to Adulthood. I was absolutely a night owl in HS through about 26, then something switched and I love mornings. 7 AM – 11 AM is the best time for me now. It’s okay to change. I’ve also found I do best with more sleep. In college, I functioned best on 6 hours, maybe out of need (I worked and went full time), but now I like to sleep around 10 – 7 AM for feeling my best throughout the day.

Are you a breakfast person or a fast during the morning person? I can go either way, but I’ve been training myself to eat intuitively lately too.

What type of planning style do you benefit from? Are you a quarterly goal person or a monthly? Do you need a daily task list or a Kanban board so you can see progress? Visual or notes?

I think it’s important to be flexible as you discover things about yourself. And for goodness sake remember to rest not quit, and try to learn the ebb and flows of your life. If you are busy every second weekend with family, plan that in there. If you get tired before you start your period, learn to rest those days and focus on less. It’s okay. That is the real secrets to getting the best out of your day – giving yourself the best chance to have a great day!

Have a happy week
