Why you’re not happy in your in planner; defining success

Hey friend,

Have you found your so-called planner-peace? There are a ton of planners are out there and keep popping up and the market is still good to go (if you are thinking of adding your own, GO FOR IT!)  but are you still struggling no matter the inserts? A planner should be functional to your way of thinking, which is easier than ever with the options; but to get there you also have to be clear about your goals and successes.

Define what success looks like to you

There is a reason goal planning is so emphasized and productivity blogs have just boomed. I think everyone is looking for a quick fix to get the motivation to get to work and fast cash themselves. I think goal setting is important as it gives you something to strive for. I struggle with bigger, long-term goals myself as I am not sure where the future will go and I am open to it being weird as hell. I am probably not the best person to tell you how to plan your next 5 years, but I am a great person to help you understand the steps to get there.

I think so many of us bounce around in planner after planner until we realize how to set goals that work for us. After that, it doesn’t seem to matter which planner you use, as long as you keep on your task. The first thing I always want try to stress is what defines a successfully lived life to you. That is where you are going to want to aim. If that goal is to be a teacher for example, then your path includes a lot of college and classes, and yes you can do this anytime! Time will pass anyway if you want to teach at 30 go to school and teach.

Maybe you will consider your life well lived if you have 3 kids, a successful partner, and permanent home. Those are some lofty goals, even if you have a partner already. That would look like both of you working hard before the kids, maybe one during and some side work, then when they get back to school or whatever, you head back and help with a retirement fund so you can both retire and enjoy any grandkids. That requires a lot of planning with money, time, and communication with your partner. Those are great goals and lives.

My point is people dream differently and as a result, plans look different and your overall happiness may be affected if you are dreaming of one thing but taking actions in another direction. They need to line up. Actions need to line up with your goals. Let’s say you want the above dream, constant vacations may not be in your action plan if you want to have a downpayment for a nice home. Or if you want to go back to learn to teach, drinking all night and not studying doesn’t align very well with a student lifestyle. It can feel frustrating if your actions don’t line up with where you want to be eventually because while you are living in the moment, you are not making progress to your goal.

Start small, with the goal in mind. If the idea life is teaching, start by doing your best in classes now and then worrying about other things later. You can do a lot of progress by just focusing on a few small aspects to the bigger goal. Losing weight for example – focus on better eating for a few months, add walking after a while and you will see progress eventually – albeit slowly.

“If you get one percent better each day for one year, you’ll end up thirty-seven times better by the time you’re done.” James Clear

There is plenty of time

There are a lot of weeks between 22 and 34 so keep that in mind too, your goal path might be shorter if you are starting late or aiming for a lower time frame. Overall though, this is the key to successful goals. Slow, steady actions to the goal post. If the goal post is more views, you set actions of posting more, sharing the content, updating the SEO – etc to build towards that goal. Slow progress is the key to hitting goals.

Have a great week~
